Encounter Summary:

Jane Cogan called Dave at home to relay a report of transients being found near Blunden Island. A little later, Barbara Bender met Dave at Snug Harbor and they left aboard Orca at 1208. After a brief stop at Roche Harbor for fuel, Orca headed out and was on scene by 1255.The T65A's and T125's were milling near the Saturna Island's south shoreline at the east entrance to Plumper Sound. They may have made a kill before we got there as the milling seemed pretty social. Their behavior was very similar to our encounter on May 31st. T65A4 and T65A5 were breaching and splashing a lot and T65A breached at least once too. T65A2 and T125A were also rolling around and interacting with one another on the far side of the group and T65A2 was seen to breach once with an erection. T125, T128, and/or T127 would occasionally move off just a little to the east of the T65A's before circling around and heading back toward them.Around 1330, all the whales began moving slowly northeast, loosely spread out. T65A4 and T65A5 were still doing a lot of breaching and splashing while T65A2 and T125A were still roughhousing with one another on the periphery of the group. The group passed close to the Java Islets but did not appear to forage along the seal strewn rocks there. After they passed the Java Islets, they turned a bit more easterly and began crossing Boundary Pass. By about 1430, the whales turned more northerly again, still loosely spread with the young males T65A2 and T125A still messing around with one another. We left the T65A's and T125's heading slowly west northwest at 1458 about 2 miles west southwest of the west end of Patos Island. They had tightened up a little and settled down some and might have begun resting.
