Encounter Summary:
A mixture of J,K and L whales that had not gone up to the Fraser River yesterday (Enc 103) had travelled south in Haro Strait in the afternoon and were headed out the Strait of Juan de Fuca today. Ken responded to this group by launching “Chimo” from Port Angeles and encountering the whales north and west of Freshwater Bay, Olympic Peninsula. The seas were flat calm and the whales were foraging in groups as they travelled west. Several individuals were observed to be swimming in tight swirls presumably pursuing fish, but no scales were observed.
