Encounter Summary:

Whales had been found in Haro Strait off San Juan Island so Dave headed down to Snug Harbor and left aboard "Shachi" at 1335. The leading whales were already off Land Bank and still heading north when Shachi got on scene at 1350. The K13s and Ls were very spread out and Dave took distant photos of K25, L55, and L109 off Land Bank before moving on to members of J pod who had be found near Middle Bank.

"Shachi" arrived on scene with the J14s, J19s, J2, and L87 near Middle Bank around 1420. These whales were also spread out and generally heading east. J49 and J51 were briefly playing around together before J51 headed back over to his foraging mom. Once again, J14 was the only member of the J14s who was not seen.

Around 1455, "Shachi" left the J pod whales still moving easterly and headed back toward SJI and the K13s and Ls who had turned south and were now about two miles west of Eagle Pt. These whales were still spread out in singles and small groups with some whales foraging and others looking like they might be socializing. "Shachi" ended the encounter at 1532 with the easternmost whales still about two miles west of Eagle Pt.
