Encounter Summary:
Js and Ks were very spread out heading north in Haro Strait in the morning and the J17s including J28 passed directly in front of the CWR porch. Both appeared to be "logging" much of the time in the flat calm water. Further out in the strait another female breached several times and others made relaxed change of direction as if lazily pursuing fish,... or searching. Occasional swirls of activity suggested that at least some fish were available. Ken and his guests embarked in "Chimo" and went out for two and a half hours to document J28 condition, and Giles went out with "Moja" to try to obtain her fecal sample for analysis. John Durban and his drone team were also out to obtain aerial photogrammetry measurements of her and her calf, J54.
Notes-Comments:All of the research today was benign - no biopsy or invasive techniques were employed.
