Encounter Summary:
After Shachi left the transients around 1625, we decided to make a brief pass at J pod since radio talk had them still in northern Boundary Pass. J pod was closer than expected and we got on scene about a quarter mile west of the Patos Island lighthouse at 1639.
The J17's and J22's were loosely spread in a single group heading slowly east-southeast. Some of the animals seemed to be socializing as several whales were splashing around as we were arriving. J34 did a cartwheel and a pec slap before going on a long dive. We let the whales file slowly past us as we got proof of presence photos on all eleven of them and left soon after at 1645.
