Encounter Summary:
While Morningstar was returning south through Swanson Channel, Mark Malleson and Ken Balcomb relayed reports of transient (Bigg’s) killer whales being seen heading north near Beaver Point on Saltspring Island. Morning Star continued south until reaching a location where it was possible to scan both Captain Pass and Swanson Channel. After seeing a potential blow between Saltspring Island and Prevost Island, Morning Star headed south through Captain Pass. Soon, two male transient killer whales were spotted, heading northwest. These were photographed and identified as T093 and T097. The whales were initially separated by several hundred yards, but the two came together and continued northwest toward Captain Pass. Morning Star then returned to Snug Harbor.
