Encounter Summary:

After the J16's were found in Boundary Pass, Dave left Snug Harbor in Orcinus at 1345 and arrived on scene off Bedwell Harbor at 1415. J36 and J52 were heading southwest toward Turn Point about a mile south of Tully Point on South Pender Island. J26 was another three quarters of a mile to the east of J36 and J52 also heading slowly toward Turn Point. The other three J16's were reported to be much closer in to Bedwell Harbor.

J36 and J52 milled once briefly a couple miles north of Stuart Island before continuing on. J26 also lazily did and inverted tail lob and a little later did a half breach. As these three animals approached Turn Point, J16, J42, and J50 appeared about a mile behind the others. J42 and J50 were briefly together before fanning out while J16 was in the lead. These three whales were surfacing separately as they headed quickly toward Turn Point. J16, J42, and J50 grouped up near the point and moved in closer to the Stuart Island shoreline. J26 was about a quarter mile offshore of them while J36 and J52 took the most inside line. Orcinus ended the encounter at 1517 with J36 and J52 heading quickly south in Haro Strait off Spieden Island.
