Encounter Summary:

Ken Balcomb was out on a VIP tour with the crew of 4EverWild, the new catamaran vessel operated by Eagle Wing Tours in Victoria. The encounter with these whales was conducted under whale-watch guidelines and in conformance with US regulations. This group of transients has been in the interior waters area for several days and was encountered by Dave Ellifrit near False Bay, San Juan Island on the 17th of April with NMFS Permit. In todays encounter, the's whales swam in a slow travel pattern toward the west, and they presumably were the whales reported heading west past SookePoint BC on 21 April, but the seas were too rough for photo-identification from shore.

Notes-Comments:The sea conditions were Beaufort Zero during this encounter, and the whales appeared relaxed.
