Encounter Summary:
We left Victoria Harbour at 1455 as we had a report of a group of transients heading south through Oak Bay. They were initially picked up by a Springtide zodiac. As we got on scene at 1515 we Id'd the whales as the T060's along with T002B. They came through Enterprise channel (between Victoria golf course & Trial Island). They continued west until they made a turn to go back east around the south tip of Trial. We assumed it was to investigate a Steller sea lion who just caught a fish and was ripping it apart on the surface. The whales passed by not interested in the sea lion but T060E investigated a pile of kelp and debris in a tideline in search for prey. Shortly after we saw T060C lunge after what was likely a seal at 48.23.0/123.17.5. A slick formed immediately and gulls were picking up scraps. T060D passed by the boat with a chunk of blubber in his mouth and the whales milled around for a few minutes and showed a lot of interest in the boat. We last saw them heading east for Discovery Island.
