Encounter Summary:

Ken was preparing to take "Chimo" to Port Angeles when the radio came alive with a report of Transients near Speiden Island. Plans were quickly changed and an encounter was begun after launch at Snug Harbor at 1236. The whales had made one clockwise circumnavigation of Speiden Island by the time "Chimo" arrived on scene, and they had split into two groups episodically. The lead group included the adults and the trailing group included the youngsters who frolicked along the north shore of Speiden Island. The scene was pretty busy with whale watch boats and enforcement, so only a brief time was spent in the whales' proximity. When they completed the second circumnavigation of Speiden at Green Point, Ken departed and returned to Snug Harbor to wait out the rain before heading on to Port Angeles.
